What To Expect
"This experience is a must ...
Be prepared to have fun and learn a lot."
--Kevin
- We will meet at a designated spot at 10:00 AM the morning of the hike.
- You will receive specific driving directions upon booking your experience.
- Transportation to the hike and back is available for a separate charge. We can pick you up at your location in the Asheville area. You can select this option when booking your experience.
- All hiking locations are within an hour’s drive of Asheville, NC.
- Dress in comfortable clothes for walking. You are advised to dress in layers on cooler days so you can adjust as you walk.
- It is suggested to wear a bathing suit under hiking clothes if you plan to swim. The woods are the only changing rooms available.
- Wear shoes sturdy enough to handle a trail, rocks, roots, etc. Shoes, boots, or sandals like Tevas or Chacos are fine as long as they have a heel strap. Flip-flops are not supportive enough for hiking!
- Full water bottle for each hiker
- Towel
- Any medications you might need (inhaler, etc.)
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray is highly optional. This is usually not a very buggy region.
- A backpack to carry your gear. Not every hiker needs one, particularly if adults prefer to carry a pack for a small child.
- Your guide will provide sub sandwich featuring Boar’s Head meats for each hiker (included in the ticket price). Those orders will be taken before the day of the hike upon booking.
- Vegetarian, whole-wheat, and gluten-free options are available.
- An apple and a granola bar are also provided for each hiker.
Waterfall Forest Adventure
This out-and-back hike is a mile each way. The waterfall destination is a 50-foot cascade into a pool of clear water deep and wide enough for wading and shallow swimming.
This hike is “moderate” level. As few short sections require navigating a trail about as steep as a staircase, scramble over some large rocks, and cross a stream that may get you wet up to about a foot deep. It is appropriate for all ages, but hikers with significant mobility difficulties should consider the Woods Walk instead.
Adults: $79
Kids (age 2-12): $55
Infants (under 2): Free
Mountaintop Sunset Hike
Get ready for a one-of-a-kind sunset hiking experience with near 360-degree panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from an elevation of over 4,200 feet. Enjoy a picnic charcuterie board and tea (provided) while taking in the sights of the Blue Ridge Mountain range, Mount Mitchell, Rich Mountain, and Mount Pisgah.
We will meet near the hiking spot and caravan in our vehicles to the trailhead. The walk up to the mountaintop meadow is about a mile, a hike rated “moderate.” Along the way, enjoy learning local flora and fauna from a career educator, naturalist, and longtime Asheville resident.
Adults: $115
Kids (age 2-12): $65
Infants (under 2): Free
Woods Walk to Waterfall
A gentler hike than the Waterfall Forest Adventure, this trail is 1.5 miles each way. The waterfall destination is a 25-foot hidden gem with a small pool perfect for wading and finding salamanders and crawfish. Kids and adults alike may enjoy the rush of sitting right in the cascade of the falls!
This hike is “easy” level. The 3-mile round trip is gradually downhill on a wide path through the woods with a small climb up and over some boulders at the falls. It is a perfect choice for hikers with physical mobility issues for whom navigating steeper climbs and other obstacles may be difficult.
Adults: $79
Kids (age 2-12): $55
Infants (under 2): Free
